On Wednesday September 29, 2021 at 10:21am a gas leak was reported at the Highland Hills Apartment Complex located at 5850Highland Hills Drive in Dallas, Texas. Firefighters arrived at the scene to investigate the leak and confirmed the smell of natural gas at the entrance to the building. During the investigation an explosion occurred causing a partial collapse in the building. After the explosion occurred four firefighters and three civilians were transported to Park Land Hospital.

The flying debris from the explosion is believed to have damaged at least two surrounding buildings. As of now the fire department was able to put out the fire before it could spread to the rest of the building and those surrounding it. It is not clear how many residents have been affected by the explosion.

There is still no information as to what caused the gas leak and explosion at the apartment complex. The Dallas Fire-Rescue said the explosion will be a joint investigation between state, local, and federal agencies.
