EXPLOSION AT PLASTICS PLANT IN COVINGTON, KENTUCKY LEADS TO SHELTER IN PLACE
On Monday, January 10, 2022, an explosion at Interplastic Corporation in Covington, KY occurred. Local authorities stated that there was a fire in a storage vessel that houses a polyester resin, causing the explosion. Shortly after the explosion, a “code-red” shelter-in-place order was issued to residents within a one-mile radius of the specialty chemical facility. The order was in effect for several hours before being lifted early Tuesday morning.
The city said emergency crews will remain on-site to monitor the situation. Local authorities advised anyone who feels the need for medical attention should call 911.
