1 Killed, 1 Injured in Texas Water Well Collapse

WATER WELL COLLAPSE IN PORTER, TEXAS KILLS EMPLOYEE AND SERIOUSLY INJURES ANOTHER

On July 6, 2018, the Mongtomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident on Water Well Road and Loop 494 in Porter, Texas that left one construction worker seriously injured and killed another.

The contractors, Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors LLC, had a field erection crew working on the construction of a 500,000-gallon elevated water storage tank at the time of the incident. Four men were working in the water tank when a section of sidewall collapsed into the tank. Three workers were rescued, one suffering serious injuries, and another was killed. The deceased was later identified as 50-year-old Felipe Marentes of Kyle, Texas, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

An investigation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state and local authorities is ongoing. The cause of the collapse is still unknown at this time.
