ATMOS ENERGY GAS LINE UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER EXPLOSION IN DALLAS, TEXAS
Firefighters were called to the 3500 block of Espanola Drive in northwest Dallas this Friday in response to a house explosion that killed one and injured four. The explosion claimed the life of 12-year-old, Linda Rogers, and injured her four family members residing in the house at the time of the incident. Firefighters worked quickly to evacuate those living within a four-mile radius of the explosion, including 700 students from Foster Elementary school.
What caused the explosion?
Authorities are taking a closer look at the natural gas line provided by Atmos Energy after several explosions occurred within neighboring areas sharing the same alleyway and gas line. During the same week of the house explosion, on two separate occasions, house fires broke out in neighboring areas.
Could this be a result of an Atmos Energy faulty device?
Since 2010, records indicate at least seven other gas leaks occurred within the same block of one another. At least two of these instances were attributed to the faulty pipe fittings which shift in Texas soil, known as compression couplings. One instance occurred in 2015, injuring two residents. Atmos Energy promised to fix all faulty couplings 8 years ago, but the explosions continued to happen.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the Friday explosion.
