DISTRACTED WRECKER DRIVER CAUSES CAR ACCIDENT, KILLING A WOMAN ON HOUSTON’S KATY FREEWAY

According the ABC13 News, a 68-year-old woman was killed on Houston’s Katy Freeway when a wrecker driver slammed into her vehicle on May 15th at around 9:45 a.m.

The woman was driving a red Ford Escape in the 15800 block of I-10 Katy Freeway, just east of Highway 6, when the wrecker truck driver struck her from behind in the eastbound lane. Her SUV swerved upon impact and hit a driver in a black Acura.

The 68-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after the incident, where she was pronounced dead later that day.

Officers closed all inbound lanes of traffic while they performed their investigation. The driver of the wrecker vehicle told investigators that he had looked away from the road before crashing into the woman.

At this time, no charges have been filed, but a statement from the Houston Police Department indicates the wrecker driver was at fault. The investigation is ongoing.
