FORD ISSUES TWO NEW AUTOMOBILE RECALLS FOR 2017 AND 2018 VEHICLES
According to Automotive News, Ford recently issued two separate recalls for defective automobile parts on several newer model Ford vehicles. The first recall will affect 2018 Ford F-150, F-650, and F-750 pickups, and 2018 Expedition SUVs. The second recall will affect 2017-2018 Ford F-150 pickups, 2018 Expedition SUVs, 2018 Mustang vehicles, and 2018 Lincoln Navigator SUVs.
Ford issued a recall last Friday for 2018 F-150 pickups, F-650 and F-750 pickups with six-speed automatic transmissions, and 2018 Expedition SUVs with 10-speed automatic transmissions. The recall, affecting approximately 347,000 vehicles, was issued for a potentially unseated transmission gear shift cable clip. In some instances, this could cause a vehicle to move unintendedly after a driver shifts into park and turns off their ignition. This movement would also come without any warning signals because the vehicle’s shifter appears to be in the proper “parked” position.
The 2018 Ford F-150 pickups built at Dearborn Assembly Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant between January 2017 and February 2018 were affected by this recall. The 2018 Ford F-650 and F-750 pickups built at the Ohio Assembly plant between April 2017 and March 2018 were also affected, along with 2018 Ford Expedition SUVs built at the Kentucky Truck Plant between April 2017 and January 2018.
On the same day, Ford issued a second recall for over one hundred 2017-2018 F-150 pickups, 2018 Lincoln Navigators, 2018 Expeditions and 2018 Mustang cars with 10R80 transmissions. The affected vehicles could have a missing roll pin that is intended to attach the park pawl rod guide cup to the transmission case. This automobile defect can also lead to a vehicle losing their park function, even when the vehicle is indicated to be in park, allowing for unintended vehicle movement.
The 2017-2018 Ford F-150 pickups built at Dearborn Assembly Plant (October 2016 through March 2018) and Kansas City Assembly Plant (December 2017 through February 2018) were affected by the recall, as were 2018 Ford Expedition SUVs built at Kentucky Truck Plant (November 2017 through February 2018), 2018 Ford Mustangs built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant (November 2017 through February 2018), and 2018 Lincoln Navigator SUVs built at Kentucky Truck Plant (December 2017 through March 2018).
