Spotlight: Eminent Domain Lawyer Michael Bins

THE POTTS LAW FIRM SPOTLIGHT; INTERVIEW WITH PROPERTY LOSS AND EMINENT DOMAIN LAWYER, MICHAEL BINS

I recently sat with The Potts Law Firm associate, Michael Bins, to learn more about his journey to become a lawyer and his motivation behind advocating for property loss and eminent domain clients.

Q. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A HOUSTON EMINENT DOMAIN ATTORNEY?
My grandfather was an attorney and I really looked up to him as a child. I also had a personal experience with eminent domain at a very young age. When I was 16 years old, the government seized my home from me and my parents to make way for a Houston Independent School District parking lot. We had lived in our Heights bungalow my entire life and made all our family memories there. The state taking my property and home really left a bad taste in my mouth as a child, but it helped me focus on how I could help people going through similar situations in the future. It has given me the desire to help the little guy and fight for just compensation on their behalf.

Q. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING?
I’ve been practicing law for five years now. Since the beginning of my law career I’ve litigated eminent domain and other real estate cases as well as personal injury law and insurance coverage issues.

Q. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING AN ATTORNEY?
I love helping people. I know I’m making an impact when I prevent the government and other corporations from taking advantage of families and individuals that may not know their rights or what they’re entitled to through just compensation laws. It is tedious work, but I really enjoy negotiating on behalf of my clients.

Q. WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR CLIENTS CHOOSE YOU RATHER THAN ANOTHER ATTORNEY THAT DOES WHAT YOU DO?
My clients see the empathy I have for the hardships they are going through. I take an aggressive stand to advocate for my clients and pay close attention to the details in their case.

Q. WHAT OTHER AREAS OF LAW DO YOU PRACTICE AT THE POTTS LAW FIRM?
In addition to litigating for the compensation of fair value of property, damages and relocation for eminent domain and inverse condemnation clients, I also handle client cases with insurance coverage issues for property loss caused by hailstorms, hurricanes and tornadoes.
