DODGE RAM TAILGATE RECALL ISSUED BY FIAT CHRYSLER TO AFFECT 1.1 MILLION VEHICLE OWNERS IN U.S.
Approximately 1.1 million U.S. Dodge Ram pickups have been voluntarily recalled by Fiat Chrysler after an investigation by the FCA discovered issues with the power locking mechanism in the tailgates. Canada, Mexico, and areas outside the NAFTA region will also likely be affected by this recall.
The new investigation conducted by the FCA revealed that, after a period of time, a small component in the power lock actuator control may break and cause the tailgate to unlatch. The recall covers pickup truck models 2015 through 2017 of Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500. Trucks with manual tailgate locks and eight-foot cargo beds are excluded from this recall, along with the newly engineered 2019 Ram 1500.
While Fiat Chrysler is working on a solution for the defective auto parts, they urge all vehicle owners to secure their cargo using tie-down rings, cleats, bed extenders, and so on.
