KANSAS CITY APARTMENT FIRE AT COLLEGE PARK TOWNHOMES KILLS FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHILD AND INJURES THREE OTHERS

More than 40 firefighters came to the scene of a Kansas City apartment fire which broke out Saturday, July 7 around 10:45 a.m. at the College Park Townhomes, in the 700 block of North 70th Terrace. Officials say at least one four-year-old child was killed, three victims were injured, and more than 20 others were displaced from their homes.

Residents stated they heard two loud “booms” just prior to noticing their apartment on fire. One resident stated “I had enough time to get on my shoes, but the house was filled with smoke at that point. Our neighbors were jumping out the windows because the fire was so big in their household.”

According to a Kansas City fire marshal, the building did not have a sprinkler system, although KCFD reports indicate the complex did have smoke detectors. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.
