TWO CONSTRUCTION WORKERS DIE IN SCAFFOLDING ACCIDENT NEAR DISNEY WORLD
Two construction workers were killed, and one was injured, when scaffolding collapsed above the sixth floor of a hotel under construction near Disney World in Orlando. Fire-Rescue rushed to the scene after receiving a call on August 29th around 4:15 a.m.

The construction workers were between the sixth and seventh floors when the scaffolding collapsed, causing two construction workers to fall to their deaths. The other construction worker was able to climb to safety, suffering only minor injuries.

Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles stated concerning the incident, “They were on the scaffolding, and for reasons unknown at this time, that support structure gave way, sending two workers plummeting to the ground below. Both died on the scene. A third worker managed to hang onto the scaffolding and managed to climb to safety.”

The hotel under construction is a future JW Marriot Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort located near Orlando’s theme parks. Owned and developed by DCS Investment Holdings from West Palm Beach, Florida, the 16-story building features 516 rooms and is estimated to cost $282 million.

Jeff Flaherty, who handles global communications and public affairs for Marriott, released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident that took place earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the workers who died.”

While officials have not released information about why the scaffolding collapsed, investigations by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and OSHA will soon be underway.
