FIAT CHRYSLER RECALLS THOUSANDS OF RAM 1500S AND JEEP CHEROKEES
On Tuesday, October 27th 2015, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced that it was doing two massive voluntary recalls of its popular Jeep Cherokee and Ram 1500 models. In sum over 140,000 trucks and SUVs are being affected by this voluntary recall, which is being conducted amid potential safety concerns. FCA has noted that it is unaware of any accidents involving injuries thus far for these affected models, but consumers should comply with the recall immediately for their safety.

ABOUT THE JEEP CHEROKEE RECALL
One of the two voluntary recalls involves over 75,000 Jeep Cherokees from the 2015 year model. The recall is the result of two consumer complaints to federal regulators about smoke and flames occurring in the engine compartment. Further investigation revealed that some 2015 Jeep Cherokees had their air conditioning lines incorrectly installed. The AC lines were found to be too close to the engine’s exhaust manifolds. This in turn poses a serious potential fire risk.

The recalled Jeeps will have their air conditioning lines inspected and replaced as needed. FCA says that it is unaware of any accidents or injuries as a result of this defect. However, given the potentially serious nature of the defect it is crucial that 2015 Jeep Cherokee owners comply with the recall to protect themselves and their families. If subsequent accidents and injuries do occur, a qualified auto defect attorney can assist consumers in protecting their legal rights.

ABOUT THE RAM 1500 RECALL
The second of the two voluntary recalls involves almost 66,000 Ram 1500 trucks from both year models 2015 and 2016. The vehicles were built between mid-June and late-September of this year. The recall is the result of an investigation that revealed a parts supplier may have improperly heat-treated the Rams axle shafts. This condition can result in increased wear and eventual overheating, which in turn may cause the Rams Anti-lock Brake System warning light to come on.

FCA says that it is aware of only one accident thus far that may be linked to this defect, and that the accident did not result in any injuries. Furthermore, FCA says that most affected vehicles were still in deal inventory. However, once again it is important for affected to consumers to comply with the recall on the Rams for their safety.
