FISHER PRICE INFANT ROCKERS LINKED TO OVER A DOZEN DEATHS
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fisher-Price have issued a warning to parents to not let their babies fall asleep in the baby rockers, as there have been over a dozen deaths because of this. Sadly, the Infant-to-Toddlers and Newborn-to-Toddler rockers have been linked to at least 13 infant deaths from the year 2009 to 2021.
Commissioner of the CPSC came out with a statement saying, “No inclined product, made by Fisher-Price or any other company, is safe for infant sleep.” The CPSC also states that, “it is dangerous for infants to sleep in products that incline more than 10 degrees.”
The warning should remind parents to never leave their babies unsupervised while in rockers (as well as swings, bouncers, loungers, and other inclined products.) Products such as these should not be used for sleep as there always lies a risk of suffocation. Safe sleep guidelines are critical for parents to follow when their babies are very young, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Please be sure to look over and remain aware of the proper guidelines for infant-safe sleeping.
It is clear Fisher Price should remove the rockers from the market after the string of fatalities, however; they have yet to be recalled.
