Travel Insurance and COVID-19

TRAVEL INSURANCE CLAIMS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
COVID-19 disrupted a multitude of travel plans in 2020. Many of these were booked via companies like VRBO, Expedia and Travelocity. These companies as well as airlines, rentals agencies, and hotels offer travel insurance which guarantees partial if not a full refund if the trip cannot be taken.

DENIAL OF COVID-19 TRAVEL INSURANCE CLAIMS
For travel events during the COVID-19 pandemic, some travel agencies have refused to give back rightfully owed money for trips cancelled due to travel restrictions, quarantine guidelines, etc. For example, Generali Insurance is a company that insured many VRBO rentals and has denied most claims made. Thus leaving would-be travelers without a trip or the funds that were paid to book it.

WHAT THE POTTS LAW FIRM IS DOING TO HELP
The Potts Law Firm filed a class action against Generali for these unfair claim denials. Because other class actions were also filed across the nation, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation listened to arguments to decide where to consolidate the class actions and which judge should oversee them. Our Founder and Managing Partner, Derek Potts, was one of the few attorneys permitted to speak before the Judicial Panel. Derek presented arguments relating to the consolidation and court location of the lawsuits that were filed throughout the nation.

Although this case is still in development, it’s clear that it will set the precedent for future handling of travel-related insurance Claims During COVID-19.
